  1. As a child, I spent a good deal of time with Mr. and Mrs. Kusumoto.
Taeko and I were very good friends. We went to Micheltorena Street School, and on to Thomas Starr King Jr. High School. Grace was a lovely woman, and aptly named GRACE. She taught me how to wash
Japanese rice, and believe me, I did it, until the water was clear! I spent many night sleeping at their home. I remember when they lived up on the hill, before they moved down farther on Redcliff. I watched the Shonien being built. At that age, I had no idea how meaningful Grace was to the Japanese community and, of course, the Shonien. I also remember when Grace was pregnant with Joy. We were all so happy. I remember Gene, too.
I would like to get in touch with Taeko. She would know me as Susan Peterson. My married name is Rhoades. If you can get this to her, would you kindly give her my email address. So many wonderful memories of how accepting the family was of me.
I think that Grace and Ken have gone to heaven by now. Bless them.
